Is there a plugin that most would agree can out do either of these.I like the finalizer 96k but since then, I'm sure software offers something better for the right price.
Any suggestions?

It might be nice if there were one plugin "box" that was perfect - maybe not. I glue together a few different ones, tonight's menu:
PSP MasterQ (beats Ozone3 EQ for this project) ->
PSP Mixtreble (add transients back in) ->
Ozone3 Maximizer (smooth with a capital "S") ->
Voxengo Soniformer (bass management & stereo width) ->
Voxengo Elephant (mastering limiter) ->
[Elemental IXL Metering]
[Voxengo SPAN RTA]
I'm remastering (repairing) a cassette to CD for a local artist and there's barely any oxide left on it...
What are you doing?

If you need something better then Ozone then you need voxengo's Soniformer and or Marquis compressor. Voxengo's Harmonieq is a great eq, voxengo's elephant limiter and or kjaerhus mpl-1.There are also several great reverbs that out do Ozones reverb like wizooverb 2.To match Ozones harmonic exciter i'd look at Transmodder by voxengo.dblock wrote:Is there a plugin that most would agree can out do either of these.I like the finalizer 96k but since then, I'm sure software offers something better for the right price.

Actually, I have a Sonalksis DQ1 and CQ1 I just bought which I think kills along with a multidynamics 5 but decided it worked best on the kick for me.
Maybe I'm just being greedy but I figure the better the sound I can get with the plugins the better off I'll be when I send it all through the finalizer,alan smart c2 compressor, manley slam and avalon 2055 and l2 hardware maximixer.
Maybe overkill maybe not.I'm just experimenting and I don't have the formal knowledge let to hook this stuff up for real pro mastering yet. I want my stuff to sound like a record.

I tried the voxengo's Soniformer demo but thought the Sonalksis had more of what I was looking for though voxengo makes good products. Haven't tried the Kjaerhus mpl-1 or marquis compressor yet.

I've just used Transmodder for the first time (bought it long time ago) and the thing is just amazing. I've used it on a bass sound and it came alive with such zing and funk, I couldn't pick my jaw of the floor. I might post an mp3 later.

dont look for plugins, you got the tools needed for the final product... just get used to them and try them in different orders/chainsdblock wrote:... but if you can not get it right with these superb outboards then you should go back to the mix and fix it there

Call me crazy buuuuut...you have some fairly significant hardware for someone "just experimenting" with "no formal knowledge".dblock wrote:Maybe I'm just being greedy but I figure the better the sound I can get with the plugins the better off I'll be when I send it all through the finalizer,alan smart c2 compressor, manley slam and avalon 2055 and l2 hardware maximixer.

I must say, I am relatively perplexed as too how you would be advantaged with all the plugins you could wish for, when you are apparently not up to patching together the hardware you mention above.

It's a very nice tool. It's not a exciter but it can really bring things out like you want it. A little tricky to use (i'm a slow learner anyways) but nice. If you have the time i'd like to check out the mp3 later.himalaya wrote:Off topic,sounddesigner wrote:........harmonic exciter i'd look at Transmodder by voxengo.

Of course there can be a time to use reverb in master. I wouldnt always, but just recently a friend gave me his band to master, They are a doom band and basically everything was recorded in the same room at the same time.. And it was raw, but fairly good still, but it had no ROOM to it at all, and considering this was recorded as sort of a live setting, soom reverb added quite a bit of feel and livliness. Not a shitload obviously, just a touch and I personally think it was the difference between a decent master and what turned out to be a real good sounding master... Sure it could have been mic'ed better or had and ambience mic for the whole band and been recorded in a proper studio, then I wouldnt need to add reverbs, but life isnt perfect..ATS wrote:sounddesigner wrote:If you need something better then Ozone then you need voxengo's Soniformer and or Marquis compressor.
