ive opened some .pgm kits of the mpc60 factory library and ive found that all the percussive instruments root keys are set to (C#) ...is this normal ? i suspect it isnt since the kits that contain a bass guitar sample have the root key set to (C) (and those ones i know that are in fact (F#) and not (C) as awave imports) ...so im starting to think that its all wrong... does the mpc60 uses a fixed sample rate like 22050 or 44100 ?

any more info about this issue would be very welcomed...

With percussion a sampler isn't supposed to transpose / change pitch. So the root key has to be set identical to the note number it's patched to.

If you know a specific sample is F#, feel free to change that. I suppose on the MPC it was mapped to a key (pad) that has a note number that in general means to be a C note.

That's the difference between percussion and non-percussion banks. In percussion the note numbers aren't true notes but just a way to identify to which drum pad they respond.

im aware of that...this is the mpc percussion factory bank...but what im really trying to find is the sample rate at that each sample was recorded... by what ive heard i suspect that the samplerate of each sample varies from sample to sample ... so in this case the root key would set the right playing freq... so that the sample would be listened at the "natural pitch" ... i believe the akai guys are sloppy enough to put samples with different rates in theyre kits...

thanks again for the info...

MPC60 had a fixed 40kHz sample rate.

What's that suppposed to mean?

If you knew anything about sampling (especially back in those days when memory was measured in kilobytes and not gigabytes and data was stored to a single density floppy drive), you'd know that it was good (and common) practice to sample at different sample rates to conserve memory. Not sloppy at all - efficient and sensible.

As it happens, variable sample rate (unfortunately) wasn't available on MPC60.

many thanks for the info mr hollowsun...

sorry for not being a fan of akai....some of theyre kits are sloppy....thats my opinion...i know perfectly the relation between kb and sound quality...the first samples ive used were 11025khz :D ....this was in the fasttracker 2 days....

thanks again for trying to help...maybe youre info is what i need.
