Just one small CS01 Mk II question... Then I'm done. [2006 thread bumped]

Does anyone know what the top label of the VCF resonance scale on this model should read? Seems not one picture available on the entire www has readable text -- not that the corresponding text on my GUI will be quite redeable either, but just for the sake of completeness...

The only thing that can be gleaned is that it's two lines worth of text. I took a wild stab at "SELF OSC", because the new self-oscillating filter apparently was The Big Thing about the MkII.

Other than that, I'm just a thorough knob-testing session away from being finished. Time to re-configure the workspace from "computer programming" to "synth programming" :hihi:

This is looking very good BTW

So is this going to sound like the real thing in any way? Or is it just an homage?

Hmm, Yamaha only have the PDF manual for the mark 1.. :(

I'm seeing what I can dig up.

Oh, and: Yowza! looks fantastic! :D

Ooh look, they also did a red one:

And here's the white one:

In some ways like the real thing, but not in every detail  . No custom-coded oscillators or filters, sorry. (But from some comments made, it seems the standard SynthEdit oscillator is perhaps not so far removed from the rather bland, on-chip original waveforms.)

Some things, however, I have tried to do right:

* LFO speeds match the original.

* The glissando is a true glissando.

* Envelope curves are logarithmic.

* When you program the examples from the original manual of the Mk1, you actually come up with sounds that sound like you would expect! :tu:

To my hazy memory, the Mk1 sounds quite OKish. I've never had a listen to the Mk2 myself (apart from the short snippets available in the Vintage Synth Museum), but at least I threw in a Moog-like 24dB filter and made sure it can self oscillate at the appropriate juncture... :ud:

Well, that's something. I look forward to it.

VCO OFF

Nope.... it's actually pretty clear for me to read:SELF OSC (Self Oscillation)

There's also a hint here:

Scratch my previous post... didn't see it was pethu him self asking about the 'real thing'.

Its VCO OFF.

No doubt about it.

Ah! After years of speculation, the question is finally put to bed! :hihi:
I only had the modest model 1 with the 12dB, two-pos resonance filter myself... so what on Earth the "VCO OFF" position actually did I leave to others to sort out.

Not that i'm likely to do anything about it anytime soon mind you, I don't even have SynthEdit installed on my latest Monster Rig... but thanks anyway!
