I can imagine doing all sorts of John Cage style madness with that beastie. Wicked.

Is this the same one that talked about in this thread: http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=139513 or is this something else?

OMG !

Too bad that we need to wait until the 26th of this month for the website being opened !

I'm intrigued, but not very excited. There's no way it's entirely 'modelled' - if it is, it'll probably be about 6 notes polyphonic on most PCs, and will sound like ball-bearings being thrown at a rubber band.

To accurately model a piano 'from scratch', you would have to calculate the resonance and interaction of well over 200 strings, whilst accurately reproducing the resonant characteristics of a piano soundboard and cabinet.

IOW - it'll be samples played through some filters and customised reverbs.

Chances of it sounding significantly more realistic than any of the other piano VSTi's out there? Pretty slim, I reckon..

Well, let's wait and see shall we?

Well, let's just say that the word 'modelled' is very popular when it comes to marketing, as it is conveniently vague.

When you use "modelling" clay you mash it around to get the form you want. The filters are probably "modelling" the samples. Who knows.

We'll see on Saturday.

If it is not fully modelled then their claim that
"...the third generation sampled pianos where each note is a recording of how it sounded during a specific moment in time, not taking into account the complexity of the instrument.

Pianoteq is the first and only piano belonging to the fourth generation, developed to go beyond the limitations of the third generation "

Is not really true as GEM use a combination of samples and modelling in their DRAKE technology pianos...

Post

"Being a truly modelled piano, the sound is created in real time from scratch through a very sophisticated mathematical model, simulating an acoustic piano."

quoted from the press blurb... sounds sample free

If it just makes good piano like sounds, it will be of interest! Nice GUI

Interesting maybe, but *HOW* @#$%ing expensive!?!?!
