Are there any (good) VSTi plugins that take a sample and loop it continuously either locked to the tempo or freely and which have an option for playback speed?

Actually, what I'm looking for is a VSTi equivalent to loopers such as found in e.g. Bidule or Audiomulch.

Those look nice indeed, but they don't seem to have any way of loading files. See, I don't want to record the loop into the plugin, I already have lots of loops which I just want to load straight into the looper.

Try HighLife. http://www.discodsp.com/highlife

You load a sample and go to View > Edit. Then enable Sync button and specify the steps. You can also use auto-slicing under Cue > Sync Split.

Whoa, that looks like a full sampler which is way more than I need (I already own HALion). Hmm, there is always the option of writing my own looper in synthedit or alike, but I can't imagine that nobody has written something like this before.

Well, it is really inexpensive for what it does. Up to you, of course. :)

On top of live looping, Loopyllama can open files and loop them. So can Zone Mobius.

Hmm, OK I will give Loopyllama a try then.

Zone Mobius looks fanatastic, but for some reason I never got it to work properly in Cubase, it would always crash on me seconds after I added it to my instrument rack. Maybe the latest version is better, I'll have to try that.

Thanks everyone by the way :)

Zone Mobius can be crashy at times. The VST is only a bridge to the standalone app, so it may cause some instability depending on how uptight a host can be with windows.

ioplong's relofter might also do what you want:

That's more like it! Looks exactly like what I was looking for. I'll give it a spin tonight.

Thanks!! :)

If what you want is a timestretching/host sync loop player, like the one in AudioMulch, than give H4xxor a try.
It's main purpose is beatslicing but you can also use it for playing loops in your host's bpm.
