for the mac?

Post

Dunno about commercial ones -- I run Sound Forge 8 on my PC, and I'm pretty sure there is no Mac version. Audacity is pretty good, and free.

Bias Peak is the Soundforge equivalent for Macs, if Audacity doesn't cut it.

The best handful are Spark XL, Peak 5, Soundtrack Pro & DSP Quattro, with a handful of other wave editors as mentioned above knocking around.

None of them come close to SoundForge though, there's something about that app that I find really comfortable...

My 1st ever was soundsculptor 1.. It was simple editor with straight audio multitrack (no snapping or grid). It was fun tho!.. I found this page http://www.pure-mac.com/audio.html.. might find something there.. SOUNDTRACK PRO IS BY FAR THE BEST AUDIO EDITOR IMO..

Soundtrack Pro has a nice interface and some nice features, and is relatively efficient, but it lacks a huge amount of features that a pro wave editor should have.

It's mostly targetted at the audio post crowd, so it does multitrack, FX, the usual stuff like cuts/fades etc, but you lose a lot of stuff that's more usually in wave editors aimed at the audio/music production world.

Wave Editor has some really unique features, that will be the BOMB eventually if they keep developing it... The layers concept is very cool for creating new sounds, and merging two completely different sounds... If they get a beat chopping thing going, it will be THE Mac editor I think... And they're going to have a special crossgrade deal coming for other Editors so check it out! Soundtrack Pro was pretty slick, but it was really slow... and they just merged it into Final Cut anyway, so it doesn't count anymore!

it's been years since i used a mac, but bias peak was easy to use, powerful (batch processing, plugs, etc)

No mention of Audacity yet? Also works on Sun/Solaris ;-)
