Hi i noticed that ProtoPlasm uses PPG Vox which i believe is from a hardware synth? So this has got me wondering is it ok to sample my hardware synths sine, saw, noise ect and use them in a SE synth? I have noticed before that theres sample cds with patches from hardware synths also so i was wondering can you do this also without running into problems, say i wanted to sample some synths would i be able to do so and sell the samples or would i have to contact the company that made the synth before doing either of these? thanks :)

Waveforms copied from ROM are a nono. Factory preset patches are a no-no.
Just make sure the synth company doesn't exist anymore to keep you out of trouble ;-)

If samples of raw waveforms of analog synths aren't allowed anymore, then the whole Soundfont and SynthEdit business could close. Say you own the synth (or hire it) you're entitled to record it and create whatever you like and sell it.

Are you American btw? I don't understand the obsession of what's exactly legal and what's not. You are creating something else than the original synth.

No i live in the UK, i was just wondering what the status for this was as if it was ok i would probably do it in the future but i guess i can't, thanks for the info :) I could always generate them via SE's default oscs and customize them and record them this way it should be ok i think. :)

Bwaargh, just sample that synth and use the waveforms. Who's going to know if you don't tell anyone? ;-) Apart from the oscillators there's also filters and other parts that make a synth complete and unique. Especially the raw sines, squares, saws, triangles and noises aren't that special by themselves.
