of course they would be, <grin>tuz wrote:interesting question. why would you want to prevent them from voting? because you think they would be biased?
maybe we don't need to prevent them but to count their vote differently

i'm not sure what kind of a voting system Ben is going to implement so I can't really say if it's even possible to isolate certain people.
honestly though, i think everybody should be able to vote for their favorites. if people vote 1st place for the entry that they betatested, and they truly think it's the best one out of all, that's good with me. but if they do it because they betatested it, i think it's truly wrong and unfair.
all i can do in this situation is to write a message to all the voters to leave all prejudices, and biases aside and vote genuinely for their favorite entry.
although it may not be as important as electing the president, i think unfair votes could hurt people in this competition.
i assure you we will do our best to prevent any kind of fraud. but it's really not fair to keep the betatesters out of this because they volunteered their services for this competition.
on the other hand, we will try to keep fraud happening in such ways as watching post count, joined date and so on. probably not fair to lurkers, and newbies but it's necessary to prevent multiple votes from one person.
this is a good but hard-to-answer question liqih. maybe we need more discussion and see other people's opinions on this.
juanjo seems to be a betatester, so he obviously wants to vote. :p
i also think they should be able to vote.

What if betatesters could vote for any entries except the ones they've betatested for? It could be a good compromise. Not sure how to enforce that though... the obvious way would be at dev level (devs would send out their betatester lists to tuz/Ben), but that sounds a bit too bigbrotheresque to me...
The mind boggles.

just to be clear, I will stay in the contest in any case,
but I feel the problem is there,
the simpler way would be that we have 3 categories:
devs, betatesters and voters,
and one must chose where to stay, <grin>
or if you want to allow devs and betatesters to vote as well, then their vote should count half, since they are in the privilegiate position to know at least one project in adavance,
maybe we can just a poll with the devs and see what we choose

would you like to start the poll? i don't want to start a poll and have it be wrong or lacking anything that you may want included.
