Acoustic effect using electric guitar

Is there any good software which allows me to plug my electric guitar into my laptop and get an acoustic sound from it? I already have some effects this way but can't find anything to get an acoustic sound.

None that I know of... Just bite the bullet: borrow an acoustic guitar and record it

You could use WIDI vst to track the midi notes off of your electric.. But dont use any distortion or it might not be able to analyze properly.. Then you might run into my next question..

I'm flying around here at the speed of sound... I just remembered that the cool people at pettinghouse have this amazing Kontakt library called direct guitar... It's a tottaly convincing acoustic sounding guitar! (THIS ALSO ANSWERES ALL MY QUESTIONS

You can fake it, with varying degrees of success, in many ways. The best is probably to mic the strings on your electric. The Boss acoustic simulator and the Line 6 acoustic amp aren't bad at all, especially when using two pickups in parallel. (SC in neck, HB in bridge works very nicely.) EQ is important, and a touch of detune or chorus helps, too.
These will give you many interesting and useful sounds which can take an acoustic guitar's place in a mix. Still, if you need the real thing -- and sometimes you do -- only the real thing will do.

Wait... loot _then_ burn? D'oh!

If you want to play an electric guitar getting an acoustic sound:
Those Line6 guitars with dsps onboard (don't know exactly the name) can do that fairly impressive, but you will need to buy one...
Another hardware that does it quiet good is the VG88 from Roland (with its GK-1 pickup).
But note, nothing beats the real thing, in terms of costs and sound!!

It's not totally convincing as anything other than a "behind the track" texture-adder, but just record a clean electric guitar with the volume knob turned down a bit, recording either directly in stereo or otherwise splitting it into 2 audio streams, and then use a static phase shifter (not a "phaser" effect... something that puts something out of phase and keeps it there) so that frequencies cancel each other out and "thin out" the sound a bit. Bit of artificial room sound (convolution or algorithmic reverb) and you're at least in the right ballpark.

I've managed to get halfway decent acoustic-y sounds from my Strat by miking it up instead of actually plugging it in, and perhaps adding a touch of an acoustic guitar convo impulse. But it's mainly best for strummed rhythm parts versus any kind of soloing, and it still ain't as good as the real thing.
I did just get a hollowbody electric 12-string that has a great sound when played unplugged, and will be recording semi-acoustic-y parts by miking instead of plugging in...but that's still a kind of cheat as it has a hollow body.

You can put piezo pickups and a preamp in most guitars - several companies (eg Graphtech) make saddles with piezo pickups inside for strats. You can also blend that sound with the magnetic pickup sound.
