"September 19
"5 Products discontinued"
Dear users. It is with deep, deep regret that I have to inform you that due to a certain conditions we have found no other solution than imediately discontinuing R.S.P. '73, Vintage Keyboard Collection, Keyboard Gold Bundle, Vintage Keyboard Collection - K2 and Keyboard Gold Bundle - K2. We have also removed all reviews, artist quotes (and artists) referring to these products. Furthermore we have found it necessary to remove our FORUM. We hope you have understanding for such a dramatic move, but as we are a tiny company we see no other options right now. If ever - we need your support, so we hope you will continuing buying other Scarbee products. regards Thomas Hansen Skarbye"

oh my... They would mean Rhodes could/would/should go after many other sample libraries as well...

Post

there's a new Rhodes going to be presented at Namm2007 - I guess that's why...

Post

:-o So if I made a sample CD of my Fender Strat (TM), Fender would come after me? Rediculous. Maybe if Scarbee, removed any reference to Fender (TM) and Rhodes (TM) they'd be legal.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Post

The issue is indeed the use of the trademarked name, not selling samples of the instrument itself.

Post

I wonder what that means for things like NI Elektrik Piano and Lounge Lizard and EVP-88. And all those Rompler presets with the name Rhodes in them.
And whos next?
Steinway?

Post

I agree that if Scarbee hadn't use the TM, they would have been legal.

But my guess is, the company that owns the TM asked a ridiculous license fee for the past use of the TM, and Scarbee had to make an agreement that they discontinued the products for the remission of the fee.
Just my guess...

Fender do not own the Rhodes TM for decades anymore - they sold it to CBS, CBS sold it to Roland, a friend of Rhodes then bought his name back for him in '97 or so, then Rhodes died and now his friend started a new company who are going to showcase new instruments during NAMM next year...

and I am going to be the first person to sell my old rhodes and wurlitzer to buy a new one :D

I don't think they'll capture the charm of the vintage units but let's wait and see.

There was a talk at gearslutz about it, they'll probably make an improved mark II or so. I had a mark I which I preferred over the mII.

mines a MK I but its a '76 model, which should be 99% the same as the MK IIs. The pre 1972 mkIs are the real gems.

Well, that's a dramatic move!

I hope that Rhodes don't get really arsey in the way that Korg did. For those with a memory for obscure VSTi, a '02SM GROK' was issued free a couple of years ago. Just before the legacy collection came out, Korg demanded it be taken down...

I say this as there are such excellent freeware samples such as learjeffs multisample SF2 which bears the trademark name. It would be a real shame if they approached jeff.. It's a good job that Guido named his emulations after players, rather than the instrument, otherwise he may have been issued with a 'cease and desist' as well :(

Wow, this is sad. Really, really sad. The best to Scarbee; I'll have to accelerate my plan to purchase Imperial Drums, especially now that you can load it into BFD!
