I am starting these 2 threads to offer a wee bit of organization to the proceedings.

I am curious to hear, of the new features in Cubase SX 4, which ones will you likely make use of? Which are you excited or relieved exist?

This thread is highlighting what went right in Cubase 4. (For what's missing see other thread).

Media Bay, i'm looking forward the new export features, also the more dynamic mixer with presets fully exchangable, the interaction of VSTi tracks with Audio tracks.
The plugs, don't excite me much but this no Steinberg fault, i'm very happy with DSP i have already.

I like these features:
Control Room - will use it for live recording, although most of the time I record by myself so I don't really need it.
Drag&Drop FX - Will use it all the time!!!

hmm....

Other little improovements will be usefull, but I was expecting - Melodyne like Audio editing, AudioWarp for many tracks at once. Other than that I'm pretty happy with SX3.

New Channel EQ's (I assume these are higher quality than present)
RE-A-FRIGGIN'-RANGE EFFECTS!!!
Drag'n'drop effects!
Plugins updating/overhaul
including more new plugins
fully customizable mixer w/presets per-channel. That will come in handy for me.
This MediaBay/SoundFrame stuff may be more useful than I think it is. Jury's out until use.
I dig the new look.

I dunno, my wallets ready, but I'm a lifer. I don't care if Sonar/Logic/PT will mix your music for you.

* upgrade price SL to Studio is 99e, reasonable.

though I'm not sure about the new plugins, I hope they're good, I've no need for a set of mediocre plugins.

It really is, I was kinda "meh?" when I first saw the screenshots. However when I actually got to try it out I completely changed opinion. One thing people seem to be missing here are the Track Presets. What are they? They allow you to save entire track settings with plugins and eq. You can then browse through them in the soundframe browser by searching or filtering.

Lets say you've got a drumtrack, pick drums, pick kickdrum and presto - You've got a bunch of presets that you can audition in realtime without actually loading them onto the track. In other words, once you've worked a bit with Cubase 4 you'll build your very own library of track presets that will speed up recording and mixing.

But this is also very handy when using virtual instruments. Create an instrument track, use the browser and search for piano. Cubase lists all vst 3 presets containing the word piano and by clicking a lil midi button you can audition them in the background without actually loading them onto a track. Once you find a sound you like, click ok and the new Instrument track handles midi as well as audio and automation.

There's alot of new fun stuff. Some of it might not look very sexy on paper but you really will like it once you get to play around with it, trust me.

It's running on my machine

But it's a preview so I can't go into details since things might change. But anyway, we've did a feature on Cubase 4 in the next issue of the magazine I work for. I think the subscribers get it tomorrow morning. Two and a half pages or so and depending on the releasedate we're aiming for a review in the next issue.

The whole upgrade from SX3 to Cubase 4 looks good to me

There are too many things to ignore (unless you're still on VST and swear by it

)

The money to get this will have to appear
