I have a chance to buy a used Cubase SX 2. I would then of course update it to Cubase 4. What is it that I need in the SX 2 package to make an update? Just want to know that I won't get ripped off...

And then, if I make an update to Cubase 4, can I update again later to Cubase 5?

I would also want someone to point out if there's any downsides in purchasing a used older version of Cubase and then updating it with a mere 200$ or so.

it's up to Steinberg - and them alone - to decide on future upgrade paths.

the last 30 years, they've always offered one though.

to order an update you need serial and dongle, plus the product to be registered and thus have a reg number.

Registration? Really? I didn't know that was compulsory nowadays. I registered SX2, but prior to that, I always upgraded without registering. As long as I turned up at the dealers with a dongle it was OK (they preferred the packaging and a receipt too, but a dongle was the only real essential).
