I'm a user of "cool edit pro 2.0" , the program Adobe bought out...

Anyways, I know that that version definitly doesn't support VSTi, but does anyone know if the new Audition supports it? Adobe has the SHITTIEST spec page on the program, so I dont know if they simply decided "hey, lets let them guess" or if it does or does not support vsti.

It does, but not very well. Some work fine, some look a little odd, and some don't work at all.

Effects only. No VSTis, as Audition is not a sequencer. I recall reading that it adds to the Windows registry for each VST that it finds (which could get messy) although I haven't been able to find anything definite on this. If you use Audition primarily for editing and its internal effects, it's a nice bonus. But it's not going to replace a dedicated VST host.

Cool cool, just wanted to make sure before I spend the 5 hours downloading the trial (470 megs? CEP was only a hundred!)

DOes it support recording to 24-bit, not just 32-bit float?

It always records as 32-bit float, but you can "Save as" 24-bit. Mind you, if you go that route, the .pk files have no effect and it takes a loooong time to load large files.

Disable the .pk in prefs.. It doesnt really make AA run better and lets say you edit the files in another app the pk association becomes null anyway (It will look at the edited file as a new one).. W regards to VST's your gonna want to get a VST to DX wrapper simply because AA will not recognize some VST (and dump them into the unsupported folder).. Sometimes converting these to DX will remedy the problem.. The really cool thing about upgrading from CEP to AA is that the GUI is essentially exactly the same (EXCEPT FOR THE CRAPPY ASS CE2000 which was syntrillium's biggest mistake IMO).. Also you can keep using CEP even after installing AA.. Being a long time user of CEP myself I own all 3 CEP AA1.5 & AA2 and have them all on my comp

... They all have there strengths and weaknesses which ironically the others help out with...

One other buggy thing about the whole family of AA & CE apps is snap in multitrack.. Its a gui problem I think.. If you run into this problem just click on a menu item 1st before trying to snap to an event, cue marker etc..

that completely leaves out it's powerful editing features...just because that's how you use it does not mean that's what it is...

Adobe Audition can playback MIDI but it has no MIDI editing features and it cannot host virtual instruments. Audition also can use MIDI for sync.

So technically it qualifies as a MIDI sequencer, but it's not very useful as one.

Hey I'm wondering (cause I've never tryed).. Has anyone ever used eXT in AA? I'm going to give it a try and will post my result here later on..

btw the audition store is down how much is upgrade from 1.5 -> 2.0 and is it worth it
