Ok maybe I'm missing something (AT2)

But I only just realised that AT2 only takes a mono input, this means you need TWO instances if you wish to double track.

Anyway to get around this? I'm using EnergyXT.

AT2 has internal routing, there is a little box at the top were you can ghange it.

Yes but it doubles the mono signal and sends it to two groups of amps, it doesn't send the left and right as far as I can tell.

This is what I also missed with AT1, and I hoped they would improve this with AT2. So, amping stereo signals ends up in a complex and weird routing and setting orgy :(

For stereo amping, I used to take the Scarbee VKFX, which is not the best amp sim, but it works for quiet a few cases, or Logic7's Guitar Amp Pro...

Post

Really? there about 2 chains that can be route about 8 diferent ways.

Yes you are right. But the SOURCE signal is in mono, so a stereo file is mixed to mono and THEN AT2 processes it. You can split that signal into two and process it with two chains, but the source sound is always the same.

Doesn't work that well for double-tracking.

At least this is my understanding, I've tried unlinking the inputs and outputs, same result.

It only rcords to a track.
I wish IK release Amplitube like T'racks. Acombo plug, but also make is modules available separetedly. I think this would increase its value, well latency too, but for those who care to record a straigth amp and then apply whatever effects, in my case i leave it dry mostly, it's hassle.
Even the double tracking would be easier.

Well you can turn off modules, so you can bypass the amp and cab section, does pretty much what you want. The only reason double tracking is strange with AT2 is that you need two instances to effect the left and right channels. In other words, AT2 doesnt take a stereo signal it takes a mono signal - I THINK anyway.

Yeah. I wish it had a mono/stereo switch as well.

I guess that like me, they didn't anticipate that people would want to run a stereo signal in front of it. It emulates an amp, which takes a mono input. Now that you've mentioned it, though, it makes me think, "Yeah... not everyone in the world is just going to run a mono guitar signal into it!" Strange if they really don't allow for stereo... since some people have publicly said with AT1 that they found it handy for drums.

Pretty trivial to run stereo in something like eXT or Tracktion, though. You can unlink the stereo connector in eXT's modular environment so that you can send the left channel to 1 instance of AT2, and the right channel to another instance. Doubling CPU consumption and RAM consumption, but still easily done.

I don't quite understand how sending a stereo signal thru one amp chain would equal double tracking? In a real double tracking situation you wouldn't be running both guitars thru the same amp/fx chain at the same time, and usually you would change the settings some between the two takes to get a fatter sound.
So if you want a real dt sound in a virtual environment you would need to seperately recorded MONO guitar tracks (real or samples), each run thru its own instance of AT.

Or am I misunderstanding you?

AT2 has TWO chains... I would like to dedicate one to the left and one to the right... but AT2 doesn't allow you to do this because it merges its inputs into one.

I discovered last night that you can unlink the inputs in AT2, so the program must take left and right and merge them.

but at least it's dual mono ;)

which I happen to actually like but it's still funny to see it popping up all over the place
