I just wanted to get this straight...

I have never used or tried orion, but i was in some other thread which i cannot find and it mentioned that audio tracks in orion are only fed into RAM.

is this true?

Just want to weed out any potential ideas of trying hosts there is no point in trying

Probably, but given that I could load my entire audio folder into RAM twice over I can't be sure. If it was a sequencer I could maybe see the point in disk streaming but its not, which is why we love it so.

Now we're at the subject: how do I freeze / render tracks or parts without rendering the whole project? I could only afford 1 single dualcore processor in my pc, so I really have to limit cpu use...

What do Sequencers and Audio Disk Streaming have to do with each other?

well at least i have my answer. I wonder what thread that was in....

if orion isnt a sequencer what is it?

wasnt the original atari "sequencers" just midi???

The only 'streaming' I could find in the help files, is streaming 'to' disk, i.e. rendering.

Your first "answer" seems to be incorrect unless you can point us to documentation proving othwerwise. I could find none.

I don't think Rich ever intended ORION to be doing the sort of heavy-duty audio track work that the big sequencers do so well already. Its much more the virtual studio concept with a bit of audio support bolted on. Frankly I would manage perfectly well without any audio tracks at all if I had to.

For the recently arrived, for the last 5 years it has been the accepted terminology around here to describe the big boys as "sequencers" and to use terms like "virtual studio" for the newer applications which are more focussed on working with plug-in instruments than with straight MIDI and audio. Somewhere along the line much of this was supplanted with the catch-all "host" but if its too hard for you to work out on your own, I hope this little explanation has helped somewhat.

Since when? I recall it being asked for a lot but I don't recall it ever being done. But I haven't heard anyone whinging abou tit for a long time so maybe it does. I suppose it is possible that it streams audio tracks but not Sampler stuff. Maybe, I neither know nor care.

I disagree. Sequencer refers to the capabillity of triggering events in a timed sequence. Typically audio or midi events.
Some people still use hardware sequencers, and some soft synths include sequencers. So to define sequencer as narrow category of software ("the big boys") doesn't hold.
