hi,
please feel free to post here any question you may have about
Collide and Play usage.
This Collide and Play is what I call a "software instrument" opposed to "virtual instrument" as it does not imitate or emulate a real world hardware musical instrument.
A guitar allows you to play with wires and pieces of wood glued together, a computer by default offers screen, mouse and keyboard: C&P it's a way to have those computer features
to work like a new kind musical instrument.
You may not like the sound of it off the box, but you can easily make your own sample set with any sound,
(two set are included, check the RAR files inside its folder)
of course C&P require that you are fond of non-ryhtmic soundscapes, since there's no way to build a steady groove with it, so it's more like an "ambient" musical instrument.
Anyway you could pick slices from a C&P performance recording and use them in loops for very special rhythmic effects.
Don't miss to read the Help.rtf, thanks

MP3s:
Here are some examples of pure C&P performance,
all recordings are captured live and prostprocessed as indicated:
this is a short intro performed with the default samples,
postprocessing effects on the recorded WAV file were:
compressor, limiter and big reverb
http://www.dashsignature.com/mp3/starti ... lt_set.mp3
this is the same as above but dry, no reverb added,
http://www.dashsignature.com/mp3/starti ... lt_set.mp3
this is my best C&P performance so far, titled "Psycograin",
it was performed with the "example set" (included in the C&P installation),
postprocessing effects on the recorded WAV file were:
gain editing, compressor, limiter and reverb
http://www.dashsignature.com/mp3/psycho ... le_set.mp3
(probably this appeals to Sun Ra and Archie Shepp fans,
anyway I think it's very beautiful)
this is my first C&P performance, quite smooth and relaxing,
postprocessing effects on the recorded WAV file were:
limiter and reverb

thanks Chris, so far you can record a C&P performance and use that as source for any postprocessing,Chris Roberson
You can add at least one to that, I liked C&P. I've got a taste for the more bizzare audio apps though.
I'd be interested in playing with the output waves of that with say cSound or something of the like.
but of course I'll see how to add the features to send the audio out of C&P to a chain of FXs
good news is that I already started the midi version, but it's more complicated to me since I never programmed stand-alone audio applications before,aMUSEd
I love Collide and Play for the fun factor but at the moment it's not of much value to me functionally largely because it generates it's own sounds and the sounds it makes seem rather limited - now if it was able to output midi so I could use it to drive other synths I would gladly use it as an alternative to a sequencer
concerning sound limitations: C&P is a sample player like Lunchbox, and you can make your own kit with any sample set,
the C&P kit is made of 8 samples : 6 hits and 2 long ones, see the Help.rtf
if you look for a specific sound please let me know maybe I can make the new kit for you
many thanks Sascha for the Wickedness value, I agree about you requests, C&P now is what I could made so farSascha Franck
Wickedness #1: Collide and Play. Would indeed be great if there were more sound shaping options and perhaps a bit better menu structuring.
but I love the project and will expand it
be sure to have the MME driver enabledMoe Shinola
Lunchbox and Collide and Play are not making any sounds.
spacedad
collide and play was great,(anyone seen gbloink?)i could see that growing nicely, say it triggered vsts or just more controls would be cool.but i like that one very interesting.than it froze when i tried to close it.and it didn't record any sound,i think i need to do something,i'll try later.
thanks spacedad, as I wrote above I already started the midi version.
To close it use only Esc key, about recording check the mixer of your soundcard and set it to loopback mode = recording from itself

I have tried almost a half of the entries and this is still my favorite. It's very useful for creating textures and changing backgrounds.
very inspiring
