Explain good in this context. Are you looking for good examples of sound design, or good sample CDs for doing your own sound designing?

Also what sounds would you like to hear designed? Synth work, special effects, pornography?

I want to hear pornography!!!! :hihi:

I want tools to make sounds! I want to put a wav into Kontakt and mangle around. Atmospheric,Leads, soundscapes, pads.

Good wav's for starting well.

I'm very borred with all the VST's around and start to discover samplesrs again. In fact right now it is the only VST i use for the moment.

If you forgive the self promotion, I would suggest getting Vapor Virtual Synth, if you use Kontakt. It is on sale right now at www.soundsonline.com for $49. Pretty hard to pass up if you want something to tweek. I programmed a lot of single sounds and many many multi patches, but you can take it in whatever direction you want when you load it into Kontakt, you can just ignore the player plugin. It's great for huge pads, soundscapes and leads..

Of course, if you use Reason, check out WAVEFRONT at www.bitword.com. This will also let you go in whatever direction you want and there are currently 2,222 patches, and more coming. WAVEFRONT is a larger and higher quality library than Vapor, but if you have Kontakt, it would be an inexpensive choice and is still very useful material for sound design.

The WAV files are all encoded into 2 large files but when you try to access that from Kontakt, it allows you to navigate all the wav files as if it were a folder on your HD. What is easier, just load a single NKI since it is premapped, and the basics are there too, like ADSR, filter, etc.. so it is an easy starting point to add more modules in from kontakt and mangle all you like. It's actually easier to just load a patch as a starting point than to map a wav, but you can do both if you like from inside of Kontakt. FYI, all the WAVs are mapped as patches, so either way.

Hope that helps.

If you can forgive a bit more self promotion, you can check out our sample sets. Most are available either as waves, soundfont or both. Link in the signature.

For atmospheric, soundscaping type stuff that is cheap and Kontakt compatable, you should check out our Fortuity library which was developed for the ultimate atmospheric-soundscaping machines, HG Fortune's ProtoPlasm and STS-24. However, the sf2 files from this library bundle will load into Kontakt where you can layer and process and mangle to your heart's content even iof you don't have either of those synths. The soundfont itself is 109 megabytes, 168 instruments of complex and basic synthetic sounds, altered acoustic instruments and abstract ambiences for only $30. Release of the expanded 2.0 version is on schedule for October 31st, and the original version is available immediately if you purchase now(you will update to 2.0 for free).

We also have a Kontakt library, Vision, which will be updating to 2.0 in December. Vision has a lot of the kind of creative sound design stuff you're talking about, which is something of a Dangerous Bear speciality. The current version is 200 megs and is only $15. 2.0 will be massively expanded and go even further in that ambient sound scaping direction as it is developing now. The upgrade will be very inexpensive.

Also check out Tom Gersic Prepared Piano, which has a lot of extremely cool textures form the manipulated piano, not to mention that it's great mangling fodder and a set of Kontakt presets is in the works. Multiformat disc including Kontakt, $40.

There is a lot of good stuff out there, much of it very affordable so you can collect several of the libraries suggested in this thread and put together a great library. Good luck with your search, your sound design efforts and with your music.
