I'm using BBE Sonic Maximizer in Cubase. When I open a project that uses BBESM (VST) it usually rips my ears off with a burst of whitish noise so loud that the Cubase mixer registers 100dB at the master output. After I recover from the shock I'm usually just relieved to see that my monitors survived. That's if I was lucky enough not to be using headphones at the time.
The most horrible sound. Words cannot describe it. I'd rather chew glass than hear it again.
I've reported the same thing here (http://forum.cubase.net/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=58645) on Cubase's forum and it appears I'm not alone.
In the past I got around this by using the DX version of BBESM but now that Steinberg (in all their wisdom) dropped DX support in Cubase4 I'm a at a loss. I know I can try a wrapper but I would much prefer just fixing this and using the VST version.
I'm hoping the more technically inclined gurus here at kvr have some advice to offer...
