I was formerly a Sonar user, and have switched to Cubase SX3.
In Sonar, I used to spend a lot of time in the Piano Roll (key editor) view. I would draw in new notes a lot of the time, rather than play them in.
One of the best parts of Sonar, is that I could draw in a new note, and keep holding the mouse button, and if it was the wrong note, I could drag it to the right note. All of this in one click, without switching tools.
In Cubase, as far as I can tell, the only way to really do this is to draw the note, switch to the arrow key, click it and drag it. This makes my workflow MUCH slower.
Is there any way to get a similar functionality in Cubase? I feel like I may be missing something.
If not, what do you suggest for someone who likes to "build" tracks in the key editor? Is there a workflow that works for you?
The best thing I've come up with so far is to assign the draw tool to the "2" key so that I can switch back and forth by hitting 1 and 2. But this still isn't great.
I love Cubase so much better than Sonar, but this issue bugs me.

You can either use your arrow keys ( whilst the note is still selected ) to move it up & down the scale.
Or use the editing line at the top of the key page to move, lengthen & even move the note back & forth.
Plus... The numbers on your keyoard change the tool you wanna use. Think it's 1-7 or something? 1 = normal select tool. ( I think ? )

That helped some. I think I could get used to working that way. Draw the note in, then use the arrow keys to get the right pitch.
And I've already re-assigned the number keys to be closer together, as I said above.

That is a good feature! I forgot about that. All hosts should do that!
Here's a tip: you don't have to switch from the arrow tool at all. Just hold "alt", and you cursor will change to the Pencil. Let go, and it goes back to the arrow. Not quite as elegant as Sonar's change-with-the-same-click, but you will get used to working differently; it's always like that. It gets easier, believe me.

It would be great if I could get that same funcionality that Sonar has, but this will do for now. This will still accomplish what I want. I just have to get used to working this way. I don't mind that, though.
I've come to the conclusion that Sonar's way of working is not the best in many different ways, so maybe this will introduce me to a better workflow in general.
