Should I go to SampleTank 2.1 XL?

I have had SonikSynth1 for a while and never really thought about how different the samples that come with Sampletank 2 might be. So if I were to upgrade to Sampletank2.1XL, how much different are the samples. Are they completely new or just remastered? Basically, I just can't find enough information about the samples included to help me decide whether I am just slightly improving on SS1 or getting a whole new world of mind blowing sample mania.

Also, I am a bit confused about the upgrade/crossgrade possibilities. I have AT1, AT2, CSR, SonikSynth1 and still can't see any upgrade/crossgrade path to ST2.1XL.

SampleTank 1 is not the same thing as Sonic synth 1, in fact it's a whole different thing.

I realise SS1 I have is not comparable to ST2.1XL, but I am not sure of the difference in the samples. Are they all totally different or are the SS1 samples still there, just remastered? For example the Bass collection seems to be the only bass guitars in this
( http://sampletank.com/sampletank2-sounds-XL.html ) list, so is it the same one from when I got SS1 with Bass Collection over a year ago, or totally new?

Any music recorded with it would be interesting to me if you want to provide a link. Especially bass, piano and orchestral sounds.

The SampleTank 2.1 sound set is completely different to Sonic Synth 1. It's a different flavour, too. The Sonic Synth 1 (and Sonik Synth 2) libraries are more "raw" (allowing you more freedom to mix your own flavours), and the SampleTank 2.1 library is more "produced" (giving you ready sounds more quickly). It's good to have both.

ST2.1XL is the best rompler I've used. I've had the Triton EX, Fantom XR, and Hypersionc2. Sold H2 and returned to others and got ST. I'm very happy with it except for the way it imports wav. samples. It sounds fantastic.

Post

Yeah, import in ST could DEFINITELY be improved! For example, it's waaaaay behind HALion Player, which is a similar type of product.

I find the import function is really best of doing things like importing vocal phrases and processing them through STRETCH and the built in effects. If you're more interested in creating your own multisamples or deep modmatrix editing, then you're probably better off going with something like Kontakt. Of course, the best way to expand your SampleTank2 library is to use the ExpansionTank and Sonik Capsule series.

Actually Kim, the best way to expand your SampleTank 2 library is to buy the Sonik Synth 2 crossgrade. For the price of a few Expansion sets, you get over 5,000 patches ready to be imported right into your Sampletank 2. All fully programable, or great as is, right out of the box. :hihi:

Hi,

I have Sonic Synth 1 (and SampleTank 2.1XL). I've noticed that sounds from Sonic Synth are still listed in Sonik Synth 2. Is SS 2 a kind of extended version of SS 1? Could you recommend SS 2 for a SS1 user?

Actually, that page is out-of-date - see http://www.ikmultimedia.com/Main.html?C ... /index.php

Also, if you're considering a new computer at some point in the near future, it's to your advantage to upgrade to ST2XL, ST2L, or perhaps the Total Workstation Bundle (ST2XL, SS2, and Philharmonik), due to Vista (or UB, if you're on a Mac) issues with the ST1 player that SS1 came with.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but actually the Expansion Tanks have been disconinued.

It should be noted that Sampletank 2.1 will load ST1 or SS1 sounds right in it, so those sounds can still be part of your library.
