Hi all!

I'm pretty sure this has been asked before, but I didn't manage to find anything about this topic in the database.

I'm gonna be doing some work for my company till the end of the year in a location a bit far from here, and for that I've bought a laptop that I can use at the hotel in the evenings.
I may now and then wanna put some ideas down, and for this purpose I thought it'd be better than nothing if I could use my laptops keyboard as a midi keyboard.
So, what would be the easiest way to do this? Is there a vst effect that can do the trick, or how would this be possible?

Get the free Trollo and midi yoke. That's what I use.

Trollo is $40 to register, actually, although the entry on KvR says "Freeware" and has a download link.

Roman - you will need an external program to do this (I don't know of any hosts which would allow you to insert a VST effect at the right place in the program). It's pretty straightforward. There's a program called, imaginatively enough, "Virtual MIDI Keyboard", from http://www.granucon.com/ , that is free. It sends its output to one of your system's MIDI ports, however, so in order to get that data into your host, you'll need some kind of MIDI patchbay software - MIDI Yoke would work, or I've used a piece of software called LoopBe1 successfully also. A couple installs and a reboot or two and you'll be good to go!

The combination that works best for me is midi yoke with midi keyhook.
