adobe audition: spectral display

i have a quick q on the spectral display in adobe audition - does changing the settings in 'Preferences > Display > Spectral Display' (windowing function, resolution, width, range) actually change the window parameters for processing in the frequency plane or just the appearance of the spectral display mode?

i was trying to post this in production techniques but i guess it doesnt matter

Just the appearance. Lower settings show a lot less detail, but the screen refreshes MUCH faster.
