Hi,
I've always been interested in so called 3D illusion in
the stereo sound picture.
The effect is basically based on different components where
the phase error is in the main role, other components can
be delay, reverb etc.. There's quite a lot written theory of
the 3D since the 50's, the first examples in the rock/pop
can be found from the 60's, one of the most reason well
known example is Sting's Soul Cages from the 90's.
You can (try to) create 3D kind of effect "manually" or you can use some hard ware and lately software plugins, there are several in the market.

I have personally tried some of these 3D vst plugins, unfortunately these do not create anything very "revolutionary" sounding 3D in its most demanding meaning, i.e. that one
could hear the sound coming even behind the listener.
Maybe Prosonics Ambisone is one the best vst in this category what I've tried but I'm not too happy with this, either. But if you have a good stereo television, you can sometimes hear in some of the Hollywood films really stunning 3D.
I'd like to know more about the QSound products.

You can see that there are 2 different QSound plugins, neither
are vst plugin. Id like to hear your experience especially of the QCreator
(and possible of the QTools/Ax which is Direct-X plugin).
Do these work? How do you use these with the sequencer work-flow? Other experience of the 3D etc.

Yes, I have tried the Qcreator as a stand-alone
program for some time ago when I worked with one soundtrack project. If I remember correctly, it worked best for moving
the sound element from one place to another.

don't know if you've tried them,yet, but prodyon has a 3d-panner and there was also an entry in the developer challenge that sort of did this.
commercially wavearts have made a pretty complete plug with panorama, which includes binaural cancelling, doppler efect, early room reflections as well as a good reverb all in one plug. don't know if you've tried it, though. they also offer a 50% discount on all and any of their products for people assosiciated with any kind of educational facility.

I think these weren't anything else than
conventional stereo placement tools with a
fancy interface, not moore.
Ambisone is better but as I wrote, wont
create anything really cool effect either.
