I have made a recording where the sound on the extreme left and extreme right is way too low compared to the sound which is "in front of me"...
So i would like to make the volume louder on the side (L & R), and quieter on the middle of the stereo field in a very celan way (no artifacts) (So i just don't need a phase canceller or a stereo enhancer).
Is it what Mid/side plugins are aimed at (i never had to use any of them) ?
Would anyone have any reccomendations ?

Give widebug a go which is on http://www.betabugsaudio.com It might not do exactly what you need, but in combination on different tracks you may be able to get what you need....
M/S plugins are for decoding specially recorded middle and sides encoded audio.

I would recommend you our Widening ParametrEQ mid/side equalizer plug-in. Since you may want to keep the sides level on some frequencies (usually higher ones) and keep the bass more in the middle, it should be more efficient than a mid/side volume only plug-in (it can be used this way too though).
You can also try the Widening Triple EQ which has less frequency bands and may help you find the right frequencies thanks to its automated bass/treble freq adjustment. It's the easiest way to re-adjust the mid/side content of an audio track.
They arenot free but their reasonable price should not be an issue.

I already have the betabugs one and other spatial enhancers/narrowers, but i definitively give a try to your widening eq !

Helas it is not as simple as that : the mic was positionned towards the drums (so : kick snare + cymbs), and a 6strings bass amp using his whole tessiture... And on the sides, there are 3 synths and a guitar playing basses, pads, leads, etc... So i need to lower a bit the drums, and also the bass guitar (which also has an ugly resonance i have to kill), without deleting simuilar frequencies played on the sides by the synths and the guitar...
I don't want drastic manipulation of the signal (+3 db on the side, -3db on the mid should be enough, + being able to fine eq the annoying bass resonance in the mid region), but i really need top be able to tweak it in a more accurate way than the standard stereo plugins...

Another easy way to do it would be by reducing "side gain" using voxengo msed (using an m/s encoder as paul_fx suggested).

This one seems justthe easy toolk for what i plan to do ! THank you !voxengo msed (using an m/s encoder as paul_fx suggested).
And, as i will do that in Reaper, and that there is already MS encoder/decoder (i guess), it shold be fine. (but i will try the blue cat widening eq, which seems really fine too).
