I'm always on the prowl for free samples (almost exclusively for drums and percussion) and I've done a hell of a trip through the big sample list sticky. I find mostly wav and SF2s.
WHERE THE HELL do you find free .rex, .kit, .akp .gig, and other formats???? Or can you?
Even the regular websearches don't lead anywhere spectacular. Don't any of these alternative formats have an SF2midi.com counterpart, or are they mainly commercial. I like wav's but they can be messy, so I'd really like to try other formats to see what they can offer especially for ease of organisation.
I have Directwave (which I haven't even learned to use yet) because of FL, and I also have Shortcircuitfree and the newly free hyperorgasmic Highlife from Disco DSP. It would be great to see what else I can do with these cool players.

I mean organising and finding them. I have a pretty good system but it feels a little slow. Also I've ended up with similar file names a few times.John Vulich wrote:Waves are messy?
I like for example that you can have so many sounds in a single SF2; that way I can put, say a bunch of my favourite hats together and get to them chop chop, all in one convenient file without having to switch to the browser all the time looking for stuff... Since I've never used ANYTHING aside from wavs, SF2s, I'd like to see what other formats might offer for organisation, mapping etc... just curious.

but you DO know that sf2's are basically a collection of WAV's?

Same with REX, KIT, GIG, etc.
They're all just containers with special informations like "which key" or "what ADSR settings", in terms of REX it's "slices", etc.
Well if you look around on this board, you can find tons of free samples in WAV, REX and even GIG format (ever heard of the "Orchestra Project"?) - though it seems the free gothic musicbox from Ilio is not available anymore.
