I think I heard that someone was making a Natural Studio Kit for the SR-202, but they're too slow, so I ran through the tutorial on the CM site, downloaded the WAV samples from nskit.com, converted some of them to mono and built my own kit. It may not include the sounds that others want to hear and I'm sure it could use some tweaking, but here it is:

EDIT: Whoops! I think I got ahead of myself. I should have read the copyright more carefully. I'll pass this along to the guy who made the samples and see if he lets me post it here.

I didn't think it could be done successfully in SR202 (no velocity layers, no stereo sample support), but it has definately been done quite nicely in DS404. Check out this month's issue of CM.

I said I was putting together a Natural Studio kit, but it's for the EXS24, not the SR-202.

I should hopefully have it finished tonight (that is if I don't get distracted by song writing like I did last night

There are no velocity layers and I had to convert all the samples to mono, but I think it turned out okay. It's no drumkit from hell (which I also have) but sonically I think it beats some other kits I've heard. And free plus free can't be beat! I put it together for my sister, who starts the songs that I finish and has neither the money nor the inclination to buy more stuff.

To my ear it sounds a lot better than any of the default drums that come with Cubase, velocity layers or not.

I have a beautiful premiere kit sitting in the room next to the studio, just waiting to be recorded. I'll put together an SR202 kit with some of the samples... Lots of nice cymbals, 22" kick. It's on loan, but I may buy it!

I've pretty much got all of the velocity layers sorted out for the full kit, but I was wondering - would people prefer a version that makes use of the EXS's multiple outputs or just a single output? Might take a little bit longer to put together but would be quite cool

Come to think of it, I could submit two different patches

Don't most kits default to a single stereo output and then when you're using it, you move instruments to whichever channel you want? That's how I tend to do it...

Which reminds me: I think I put the different instruments on different channels in my SR-202 kit... I should change that back!

Most standard kits use a single output, but for more versatile use of a drum kit it's often good to use multiple outputs (for treating each key individually with different effects, reverbs etc).

Considering how many different groups there are in the EXS patch, it could be quite a task and it's not as easy or as instant to set up - but i think it could be worth the effort
