Thanks, Kott!

I've set up GeekosDAW on my openSUSE test setup. I had to do a few tweaks that were recommended by RealtimeConfigQuickScan app. It would be useful if the recommended URLs in the app were hyperlinks or at least selectable text so that it could be copied and pasted into a browser as they are quite long.

Also, it would be useful if it could install and setup wine ready for any windows based plugins that have to be used.

Other than that, it was a simple process!

*edit* I see that wine and Carla were installed with the pattern selected. Great. I just need to work through it and see how it all works now.

Working my way through GeekosDAW and I have to say everything is working pretty well! I'm impressed!

However, I couldn't find linvst in the repositories. Is there some sort of wrapper that can turn windows vsts into linux based .so or vst if I don't want to go the Carla route?

Post

linvst is not in repo, I'll add it in todo list

anyway, yabridge and yabridgectl is pretty good, with native vst3 support

Are You on Tumbleweed or Leap?

I'm not sure what hyperlinks about. Could you provide an example?

I didn't know about yabridge and yabridgectl. I'll try them out. Thank you!

I'm on Tumbleweed.

Here it gives an explanation about setting CPU Governors. Under 'See Also:' it gives a URL which links to a linuxmusicians topic. That text is not selectable so the whole address needs to be manually typed into a web browser. It would be good if that address was a hyperlink to the appropriate web page - or at least it should be made selectable text so that a user could copy/paste it into the address bar of their browser.

I managed to get alien installed and converted Waveform and Bitwig .deb to .rpm and all is working well.

*edit* it might be worth having alien installed and setup in GeekosDAW as some vendors only provide .deb files.

Post

Ok! I'll forward your request about URLs in realtimeconfigquickscan. And will think of alien in repo, it's not a big task to add this package.

Thanks Kott.

I also had to install rpm-build to make it work, so please bear that in mind.

This old topic is  'ours' , as linux users. It can cover vast territory :scared: and evolve as the needs arise. :hyper:

The easy conversion of software packages between formats, and the caveats, are certainly worth knowing, just as Mac users deal with au, vst, aax, rtas etc. Anyway here are the man(ual)pages for alien:

http://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/tru ... en.1p.html

a brief wiki with follow-up links:

https://wiki.debian.org/Alien

Never heard of the telegram coms site, always more cool things
for those like me muddling about under the radar. Will check it out. I even managed to join a discord or two somehow

I did not know about that. Interesting. I've been locked into Debian distros for decades but I started out with slackware and then moved to redhat and centos for a while.

In Ubuntu Studio, and other Audio linux distros,

sudo apt install lilv-utils

will install among other things, a command: lslv2

...the output of which will list the urn of your lv2 plugins,
looking a bit like this

http://drobilla.net/plugins/mda/Transient
http://drobilla.net/plugins/mda/VocInput
http://drobilla.net/plugins/mda/Vocoder
http://drumgizmo.org/lv2
http://drumkv1.sourceforge.net/lv2
http://gareus.org/oss/lv2/avldrums#BlackPearl
http://gareus.org/oss/lv2/avldrums#BlackPearlMulti
http://gareus.org/oss/lv2/avldrums#RedZeppelin
http://moddevices.com/plugins/tap/rotspeak
http://moddevices.com/plugins/tap/sigmoid
http://moddevices.com/plugins/tap/tremolo
http://moddevices.com/plugins/tap/tubewarmth
http://moddevices.com/plugins/tap/vibrato
http://padthv1.sourceforge.net/lv2
http://rakarrack.sourceforge.net/effects.html#Arpie
http://rakarrack.sourceforge.net/effect ... oilCrafter
http://rakarrack.sourceforge.net/effects.html#CompBand
http://rakarrack.sourceforge.net/effects.html#DistBand
http://rakarrack.sourceforge.net/effect ... ual_Flange
urn:juce:TalReverb
urn:juce:TalReverb2
urn:juce:TalReverb3
urn:zamaudio:ZaMaximX2
urn:zamaudio:ZaMultiComp

Why? There are utilities jalv and jalv.gtk3 such that you can
use an lv2 plugin as a standalone, for play or testing:

jalv.gtk3 http://gareus.org/oss/lv2/avldrums#BlackPearl

which readies a fine drumkit for standalone use making beats.

jalv-BlackPearl.png

Tons of LV2's are out there, and Reaper supports them now,
when a daw is desired :hyper:

Wanna reverb on the drums? Command:

Connect as usual in your patchbay of choice.

Does anybody else hate the 1-pixel edges in some linux window setups?
In my Ubuntu Studio's, I continually need to win arcade-accuracy battles just to re-size a window, and it's a major nuisance in my book. I finally found a wide-edged theme where it's nearly impossible to miss a window border or corner, greatly reducing my in-studio stress levels. It's evidently based on win 10,
which I have never seen in real life, but as the Gates clan ages, no doubt they'll be needing such things themselves :hyper:

To get the theme .zip file, click the green 'code' button at

https://github.com/DarkTrick/XfceWindows10likeTheme

General theme installation tips:

https://wiki.xfce.org/howto/install_new_themes

Your extracted theme folder will be called 'XfceWindows10likeTheme-master'.
There will be three individual themes inside that folder, the one I chose is in
the path below:

/home/me/.local/share/themes/wideBordersBigButtons_blue

Once it's there, go to your Settings Manager panel, and choose Window Manager,
and then choose one of the 3 new wide-edged themes from the list.

Cheers
