Guys, could you help me on a issue I have.

I know what WAV sample CDs are, sounds exported as a wav file onto a cd.

But I remember someone saying there were different types of sample cds. Sample CDs that aren't actually in wav format, but the actual plugin format that IT WAS MADE IN, how cool is that, so I can customize it and not effect the quality in anyway, if I don't like it. Can someone inform me on what these types of sample cds are, and if they are popular, and a good way to get clean crystal sounding samples, like percussion.

Because obviously pro sample cds have to be created on some sort of plugin, so I want to know if I can get sample cds of these samples because they are exported into wav files, so can I get them in their orginal plugin formats and customize them any way I want?

Thanks guys

----Eh, for Pc it's .wav format, and for Mac it's .aif no ? If you mean like soundfonts, that's just .wav files with extra info for key mapping, ADSR, etc. And if you mean patches, well, that can mean a lot of things, but with samples, it's more like soundfonts most likely. There's no "sample" more basic than the raw .wav or .aif file that I'm aware of. Perhaps I don't understand your question completely though.

Sample CDs have different formats. They can be in Wav, simple audio files, or in a special format of some sampler (Kontakt, Halion, Giga, sfz, etc.). They can also come with a bundled player (for example kontakt player) and some sample CDs are especially designed for hardware samplers (especially akai).
There are some tools that allow you to convert sample formats like Extreme Sample Converter or CDxtract.

All sample CDs are always high quality (16 bit 44.1 kHz CD quality minimum)

yes, that's what i mean, samples that come in special formats that play in certain sample players like Kontakt, are these called soundfonts?
