I've still been demoing this synth and still keep finding myself blown away by its sound quality. If you own it but don't care much for it please put it up on ebay, with a low-priced starting bid :) . This synth has been calling my name and telling me to come buy it every since i first heard it, $299 i can't afford at the moment tho. Below is link to a Review from Audiomidi.com. I particularly liked the ending wich i quoted below also:

Quite: The Big Question

When I first saw this product announced, I asked myself "why another synth?" and moreover, "what could Massive do for me that my suite of other Native Instruments plugins could not?" I think some fair comparisons can be made with respect to select presets in Massive and those of something found in Absynth 4, FM 8, or anything built in Reaktor. As I've alluded to, the same comparisons could be made to other software synths as well, depending on the sound you're looking for.

From there, however, it seems that Massive just keeps going, in terms of where to take the sound. This is key for those who need/want precisely that. I've thrown the word complex around when describing Massive's sound, but really, it is precisely the ever-evolving complexity that makes this so versatile. Once I started digging into Massive, those initial comparisons with other plugins began to fade, and I found myself saying, "I get it."

So do you get it? One way to find out is to sample the graciously functioning demo from the Native Instrument site. Be warned, it's like candy that you'll want more of. END QUOTE

If anyone else has there own personal review feel free to add it (good or bad). This synth has been in my dreams at night and on my mind at day. It keeps me excited and is a joy to listen to. I truly see it as a step forward in software synthesis for virtual realm.

I love Massive myself, but really, how much weight are you going to give to a review from a dealer's site??

Or, for something with such a generous demo, ANY review other than one's own...

I never found it strange to care about great tools as a musician, but quite the contrary, i usually find it strange when someone don't care, don't invest a whole lot in their music financially or time wise etc. Music indeed can be a jealous women, if you don't give her enough you won't get much. Maybe where of different philosophies but i'm secure and solid in my beliefs.

I haven't really gotten into using Massive much, for me FM8 has been keeping my attention. Just got a k2000 as well, so I haven't really had much of chance to mess with it.

My initial thoughts though were the presets were great, it was a MASSIVE cpu hog, and that the filters sucked ass. Other than that - seems like it has alot of potential. However, FM8 to me, sounds just as good (if not better) and uses considerably less CPU power. I don't know, my impression is that Massive is a bit overblown.

Anyway.

What don't you like about the filters? In my opinion, they're one of Massive's strong points...

Just to call it a "step forward in software synthesis" is patently absurd, especially considering when synths like Vember Audio's Surge, which has been out for a while now, has a very similar feature set. Massive is a nice synth, but there is nothing revolutionary about it.

Yeah, I agree. It's a nice synth but that's about it. It's terribly over-rated. I too find FM8 much more appealing.

Presumably you might have difficulty finding change for the massively powerful supercomputer you'll need to run it on, too... have you seen its CPU usage?

If you've been good it's not too late to write to Santa and ask for both :)

That means I can buy it as a Christmas gift for my daughter, right?

Massive is nice, but so are lots of synths that cost less. The filters are hohum. Some nice presets. Turn off effects and listen though.

I also find FM8 more appealing.

Massive didn't really grab me, fine synth and all but I much prefer FM8. Absynth 4, while not an all-rounder, is NI's best synth imo.

Don't forget Reaktor! :-o

I expected more from Massive. What that more is, I can't define specifically. All I can say is that it doesn't work for me.

That said, in the NI realm this year, I have gone with K2 and FM8, and I have not been disappointed by either.
