Troubles with Rhino in Ableton Live 6

Hi, I just purchased Rhino - very happy with the sounds, the synth performs well.

However since saving an Ableton Live project containing Rhino on a couple of the tracks, one of them causes the following error to appear when loading said project:

"An error occured (sic) while loading a waveform: Single Cycle\Sine:File not found"

If I click on OK, Live proceeds to crash.

I've tried to remove the offending Rhino from the project, save, close, reload the project, then add Rhino again - using the preset "Sine Time" from Tim Conrardy's Rhino bank 3 - and it works once or twice, but after reloading the project, the error reappears.

Note: there are two other instances of Rhino in this project. They don't seem to cause errors.

Help please!

Edit: Sorry, just the grammar nazi in me.

That's weird. The error seems to imply Rhino is not able to find its waves/ subdirectory - which is obviously not the case, since the other 2 instances are working fine.

Can you try to replace the Sine waveform in this preset by an additive waveform, consisting of a single harmonic ? That's an ugly workaround, I know, but this bug is a mystery to me...

Thanks for the reply, Tick. On Christmas Day, of all days. :) I haven't had time to play around with this since, for obvious reasons, but I shall try your suggestion, and also try to replicate this again in a new Ableton project.

I recently got the same error, in Live 6. I'm not sure what patch I was on, but I'll write the details down next time.
You are not a beautiful snowflake.

I just purchased Rhino 2 and am contemplating buying Live 6. I have the Lite version, and am also using Tracktion 2.1 (no problems so far). I'm going to have to keep an eye on this before I buy Live 6 (full version).

Sorry, I've been busy with RL/post-Christmas stuff to play around with this too much.

I've tried Rhino in a few other projects and haven't had further problems. So my original trouble seems to be limited to that particular preset? If so, very odd... :?

Having worked with Rhino on quite a few projects now, again, I haven't had the same problem as before, but sometimes I do get the following problem: Live cannot initialise the audio engine properly. CPU usage goes through the roof (according to the CPU meter), and it refuses to play the track. Restarting usually solves this. How do I know that this is an issue with Rhino? Well, it may or may not be, BUT this happens every OTHER time I open the project that uses the Sine Time preset. It has happened a couple of times with other projects that contain Rhino.

Tick, you might want to do some testing with Live!

Edit: Good god, I've just tried to reload yet another project, containing quite a few Rhino instances, and a couple of them are bringing up similar errors to the original. Different files this time. Tick, there's definitely a problem here somewhere...

I can do few tests with Live - do you know anyone there I should talk to to get a NFR version ?

There's always the demo which is fully functional except you can't save stuff. Until you get the NFR i mean. 8)

Well, without it it's going to be hard to reproduce this thing that happens when loading a saved project...
Also... I tried to test with Live in the past (version 4.1). It was a nightmare of instability, I hope version 6 is better...

Missed that part. 8)

Tick, if there is any more information I can give you, do ask. Not sure what else I can say though - it doesn't seem to be limited to one particular preset, more likely down to how Live stores VST information in its projects, and Rhino doesn't like it. Perhaps try and get hold of Live lite 6?

Also, I should probably say, I have recently built a "new" (new mobo, & CPU + reinstall) music PC. I'm running Live 6 under Windows 2000, on a Core 2 Duo E6600 CPU, but except for the motherboard, everything else I'm using was in the old PC. Perhaps using a dual-core CPU under Live 6 might have something to do with this? I've had no problems with any other plugins though.

Ableton staff can often be found hovering around their forum. Worth e-mailing a few of them about this.

I hate to press the issue, Tick, but I seriously cannot open any Ableton projects where I've used Rhino. I think one of them has one instance, and that usually works, but I've used 2 or more in a few projects now and none of them work without coming up with a message saying a WAV file can't be found.

I've registered on the Ableton forum and am waiting for their reply regarding a NFR.
In the demo, Rhino loads OK, at least for me :(

Thinking about it, maybe the demo can load back projects saved with your version, so if you email me the offending project, I could dig a little bit further ?
