Any recommendations for keyboard tutorial/exercise software?

Chords, scales, harmony, melody, etc.

Hi Kids,

First of all I hope you all had a lovely christmas. My family and I nearly killed each other buts thats all normal :hihi:

Basically i've just bought an M-Audio Axiom 49 becasue after years of farting around with music software, synthesis and making beats and whatnot, i'd like to learn to play. I have a old-school book for beginners but frankly its so dry its painful.

I assume there must be some tutorial software for beginners, anyone recommend any good ones?

Thanks :D

p.s. I was inspired by seeing a band in which a friend plays keys/synth and it inspired me massively. Reminded me just how powerful good music can be, i'm now itching to be able to play like this guy!

I would not recommend software to start up. I would recommand to, at least, take a few lessons from a good piano teacher. Why? It's the only way to start up with good hands technique and good posture as an experienced teacher can correct problem with those right from the start and get you going on the right foot.

Then, you should start practising scale, with both hands, no need for software for that; I suggest to practice all the major scale and the blues scale, always with a metronome and upping the tempo once a particular tempo is reached. I suggest the blues scale instead of the minor scale for starting because once you know them, you can practicaly accompany anybody by choosing the right one, it is highly versatile and its fun to come up with your own stuff using those. And again, no need for software or teacher for that, a quick Google will sort you out.

You'll need a good theory book (or software, if such thing exist) when you want to start building chords, but I am still looking for a good one on that subject so I can't recommand any at this point.
