Hi Squids,
Is there going to be any move in 2007 to increase the range of Expansion Tanks/Sonic Capsules this year?
There was mention some time last year about a brass tank or similar?
Just curious because you've got alot of good stuff going on that I see on your site, but it's been a while I think since I've seen any tanks or capsules being added.
Regards
Caleb

Like to have some more Trumpet, Trombone & Sax?
Psychic Horns: http://www.esoundz.com/details.php?ProductID=1271
It's AKAI, and fortunately ST2 is able to import it.
But of course, it would be cool if we could also buy a ST2 version and save the converting time or if we could get a brand new library made by SR.

I was wondering: does anyone know about the IK policy towards ST instrument development? Guessing from the limited offer of ST libraries, it seems to me that IK only has a handful of contracted developers (Sonic Reality, AMG, Masterbits) and tries to keep the development "closed". That would be an unfortunate attitude, especially as what the official SampleTank FAQ says ("Native SampleTank libraries are growing very fast") is somewhat disputable.

You can also buy the translator from chickensys to tranalate various formats to ST.
There's also a rich choice of AKAI sample CDs out there, some of them really with great stuff. I just got me a pack of AKAI Peter Siedlaczek Advanced Orchestra: People used to do movie scores with this library only a few years ago

Yeah the SampleTank format didn't really take off that well when you compare it to some of the bigger sample formats like Kontakt.
We did get Miro and StudioPhonik is still apparently on its way.
But there is lack of smaller expansions being produced these days. Sonic Reality have been investing time into some interesting non-ST format libraries like RAW and the bigger ST project like Miro etc. Looks to me like IK have been concentrating on other plug-ins - effects etc...
And since there doesn't seem to be too many other companies producing soundsets for the format it starts to look like the well is running dry.
I believe Dangerous Bear produced a SampleTank library or two.
Check out their SampleTank bundle.

Development isn't closed. Develop away! But, the difference is that Sonic Reality handles all of the third party sound licensing for IK. So, if you want something distributed by IK it'd probably go through me. Then proprietary IK tools will be used for development and other things that are not available publicly. Although there are a lot of things in the works so it might not be something that comes out right away. Better chance of having something made for downloadable sound packs on www.esoundz.com which we're open to and again goes through me for that too.trixie wrote:I was wondering: does anyone know about the IK policy towards ST instrument development? That said, nothing is stopping anyone from converting from Akai, SC, Wave or AIFF and doing whatever they can within the plug-in and selling a SampleTank format library on their own. I think there's just a common misconception about it.
But, yes, Sonic Reality who has been dedicated to SampleTank support since the beginning is able to do through experience and in-house tools the most detailed ST programming so we tend to do most of what is out there for it. We do cover a lot though! (ie. we sample everything
To answer the original question of the thread: There might be some announcements of Expansion Tanks perhaps. Sonik Capsules I think we're done with as a series. But, you never know. We might bring it back, we might bring back OmniSoundz, we might even bring back Sonic Station! New and improved. We kind of canned the horn library because it was good but not AMAZING. We'll release this and that from it as downloadable sound packs though on www.esoundz.com because it IS still good. But, at some point I want to do the end-all be-all horn library. It'll happen.
Generally speaking though you can expect a lot of what would otherwise be on Expansion Tanks to be downloadable soundpacks and in Loop Club on www.esoundz.com this year.

Well is running dry eh? We'll be releasing thousands of new instrument and groove multisamples for SampleTank 2 this year exclusively as downloadable products on www.esoundz.com Hopefully that will satisfy.Caleb wrote:Yeah the SampleTank format didn't really take off that well when you compare it to some of the bigger sample formats like Kontakt.

You do eat and sleep sometimes too, don't you ??We'll be releasing thousands of new instrument and groove multisamples for SampleTank 2 this year exclusively as downloadable products on www.esoundz.com
Reading all that is going on in your world recently, I've started to call you "the unstoppable workaholic" already.
After Namm, that will probably change to "the card killer".

The main thing we like to do is go out there and use our experience, connections, luck, skill etc. to bring to every musician something special, maybe something they'd never be able to have access to otherwise or maybe just something that they could but it is more convenient or more affordable if we provide it as samples. We even help companies like IK by providing vintage gear to model (what you think I don't want a model of a Boss CE-1 pedal myself???? haha, of COURSE I am going to help on that!). It's like we're on a mission to get what the musician needs to have so they can make any kind of music sound like they weren't on a low budget.

Of course, I didn't say that it was running dry - I just put a perspective on it that allowed you to draw that conclusion.Squids wrote: Well is running dry eh? Totally agree with your decision about the horn library. If it's not sensational enough then it just wouldn't be an SR product. If there are some great instruments though - feel free to add them. If they're pop brass I may well scoop some of the tastier ones up.
Great news about expanding the downloadable sounds.
I also just noticed how you have mini soundpacks for your Studio Profiles. Excellent idea!
I've never purchased a downloadable from eSoundz before - mainly because I already had everything that was offered that I wanted, but if there is active expansion in this area that would be mega cool - I could completely go impulse shopping and not feel so guilty afterwards.
I do have a request though - Would it be possible to include more ways to sort and search through the downloadable lists. For example - for example be able to filter out all the sounds from the Sonic Synth and Sonik Synth2 products if you already have them - save you wading through a whole heap of presets you already have.
Even better - if you're logged in - maybe have a way that you can mark the ones you've already purchased and filter out those so that you're only looking at new sounds.
If you really want to increase this section, this kind of functionality will allow people to browse more quickly - and therefore hopefully purchase more quickly.
Anyway - love yer work.....again!

More sounds for Sampletank needed? Here is my next suggestion for squids.
Do a SonicSynth like thing and call it SonicNova.
Also include 5000 patches, but all patches on a level of the sonic capsulke series of sounds.
When doing the strings and the other acoustic instruemts, make sure you'll include the most important articulations for each intrument, let's say about 6. Make it really playable.
include a huge strum library for electric and acoustic guitars. Make sure the strums include the 14 most used chords like, dm7, Dsus and so forth. Up and down strums with at least 3 velocity layers. From the same guitar, include samples for solo play, so that a switch of strumming to solo playing or picking can be done.
And here's one more wish: Just do anything I could ever dream of.

Two thoughts about the sounds:
1. It would be great if someone posted here when new sounds were added to esoundz. A little off-putting to have to go in and search for new sounds. Takes 5-10 minutes to find out that there's nothing new.
2. The large reason for the limited number of SampleTank multisamples is that there is no straightforward mapping utility. The current method of mapping sample by sample is cumbersome. A utility or integrated part of the program that let you map (as in Giga or Kontakt) would be an extremely valuable addition.

My hat's off to you sir. You do indeed have many irons in the fire, and your success is well deserved.Squids wrote: I admit I am a workaholic. Hi my name is Squids. No, I think big that's all. We have teams of people working on things that have taken years and have never been released. They all need to go through me and I am only one person. (although I am looking for a Squids 2, I am totally serious, someone who knows programming and can play like me that can assist me).
Re: Squids 2--I'd be willing to bet you wouldn't have to look too far. From what I've observed, you already have a viable candidate or two within your own organization. Some very talented folks over at S/R.
Cheers

You know that leader types of people that can also program samples nicely and also know how to play well are very rare. That'll cost you a fortune, but will be worth it once you manage to find squids2.
At least one thing is clear. His KVR userID.
