how do you get the sandstorm (yea, that awful song) lead sound on a soft synth? :help:

Post

I did a version for the Minimax using FilterFM

Also did one for the mQ using distortion...

Wasnt it a sync lead, if I remember right?

Heh, I spent awhile on another message board trying to recreate this synth with the help of a few other people. I do not think it is a sync sound. I believe it was created using a 303 heavily driven - the distorted resonance is what gives it the characteristic sound, and the filter seems to close like a 303 would.

Ah, but dont forget, that sound be VERY closely emulated by syncing oscs and up'ing the filter rez.

I was pretty sure this as a JP80x0 patch. As always, I may be wrong.... but dont tell my mrs that!

tee boy; yes, that would be another method. You just want to make sure the sync does not create too much motion. The Sandstorm lead is relatively static (compared to other sync leads).

I think a sync+pwm comes close but I did several version for different synths using different methods and they're getting closer to the original all the time ;) Recently created a more buzzer type version for massive and one for Alpha 3 a few minutes ago... ;)
I Once read that the original sound is among the Virus B factory presets, so it might be interesting to see how parameters of the original version looks like, anyone know the name?

That wouldnt surprise me at all! These guys are not typically known for their production chops, lol. All the classic dance and trance sounds seem to end up being presets!

The release of Zeta+ in November 2002 was a little late for Darudes 1999 Hit... :P

Well the OP was asking how to get the sound, not necessarily how Darude got the sound. :P :P

Re-reading it, he's asking how to get that sound from that "awful song" so one could assume he's looking to do a parody... Blandstorm might work, or maybe Sandbag?

Ok, I thought it you're refering to my post... :)
