Hi,

I've been looking at the current midi knob & fader controller offerings and they are either way too expensive, lacking some features or flimsy cheapies, and none of them are designed to fit (physically) to my notebook-based setup.

I've found a very well documented DIY controller project, the MIDIbox, which could be a cost-effective, totally custom solution. I already have a pic, soldering iron and skillful hands, not so sure about the time :-P

If you have built one, please share your experiences?

I thought about it but for the price you end up spending in parts you can get alot of pro-made alternatives. Although they wont be made exactly like YOU want if you can find one that suits your needs you may be better off.

It depends.
Building one can be a time- and materialconsuming thing, true. But once finished these are a lot of fun and you can come up with rather large designs you'll hardly find off-the-shelf. The photo gallery on ucapps.de is certainly worth a visit.
