My friend's upgraded from Win 98 to XP but doesn't want to change from Cubase VST 5.1 to anything else.

Is it possible to make it work in WinXP?

Most programs designed for Win95/98 work fine in XP also. But your message suggests that he tried, and currently it doesn't work. What's exactly the problem he stumbled upon? Maybe he can try running the program in Win98 compatibility mode...

I only heard he's having problems, I'll visit him today to see what's up.

Only wanted to know if it's really not possible to make it work in XP, as that'd take too much time for nothing.

...Cubase VST 5 doesn't work on XP. I was pretty mad that I also had to upgrade to SX back then. But I saw some guy at the university months later who used some cr*cked version on an XP machine...

tried even with the 5.1 and the 5.2 upgrade but nothing worked.....this of course before the upgrade to sx1,etc.

Well, I must say that I did not have problems with VST 5.0 or 5.1 under Win XP. I've been using XP and VST 5 for years.
Don't know your problem, but it definitely works under Win XP.
Maybe that helps.

...since when does it work under XP? Has Steinberg put out an update for XP? I remember that it wouldn't run on XP to push the sales for SX which had just been released at that time. Just out of curiosity - not that I ever would go back to VST 5...

Guys you have to use 5.1r on XP. There was some incompatibility thing going on with 5.1 which made it not able to boot up.. I upgraded to this version and have had no probs booting qbase since..

Cubase 5.1R2 worked just fine under XP here, I didn't even have to use XP's 98 compatibility mode either. Mind you, that was XP with no service packs installed, maybe things changed after installing them?

Does Cubase VST 5.1 work in WinXP?
