do any of you guys use a stand alone sample manager? or just ones built into your sequencers/samplers?
i realize that i need to organize my samples better...right now each sample cd is just a folder in my big samples folder....but im not sure the best way to go through and organize my 1000s of sample files.....
any ideas to make it faSTer???

No, I don't have any good ideas. It's a terrible problem. If you figure this out I'll nominate you for a Nobel prize.
Cubase 4 has an inbuilt "media management" thingie, and it seems to be very nice and might be very useful. But I am unwilling to invest the time that it would take to make a really organized library of samples. I am not just lazy.. I prefer some chaos - it can be creative and lead to unexpected, cool things. Many a great track has one or more "happy accidents" in it, after all.

well i have cubase4 so i will investigate this media management thingie....the reason i:m not sure how to do it...is some sample cds i have...have like a whole track per folder...like a kit to go together...and some have loops by section....i kinda want drums together..pad together etc....bc usually i am like i want a drum loop to add some flavor...but i still want to be able to see the sounds that go with the drum loop i end up using....i dont want 2 copies of every sound....so id like to have a manager thing that can reference the same file 2x....anyways i:ll let you know how it goes...

It sez on the site that it uses windows media player in the background for playback. Media player will only go as high as 16/44.1 from the hard drive.
Oh well.
