Hey all,

Now that I'm on DSL I can finally download some of the bigger chunks and one of the things I'm still missing is a decent piano library - preferably in exs or sf2 fromat but any other format will do, as long as they provide the raw wavs/aiffs so I can rebuild it.
I'm after free/low cost libraries btw.

Thanks,

Marco :D

Not necessarily the best but worth a look I think.

Sampletekk pianos are awesome! They're not free but they are about the cheapest for serious pro sounds! They easily compare with Ivory and Akoustik Piano!

I made a very nice piano from the UofIowa samples, many of which had minor problems, such as pops and/or clicks. Only 3 velocity levels, but nice still.

I'm interested too...

The Iowa Uni samples look nice if a bit of a day job downloading it all.
How could I forget them, I had seen them before in my dial up days. They sound really good!

My page has a torrent section with free pianos I collected over the years.

Among them the (now rare) Maestro Malmsjö, Clavinova V2.0, NS_Piano, Sjören Bovberg Pianos, the Splendid Grand, Warren Tracht Steinway and as bonus 2 Harpsichords.

The pack is 250MB big, extracted it's around 640MB.

An acoustic piano is not currently in Sampletanks free lineup - a couple of eletric pianos, but no acoustic. I believe they rotate the free samples from time to time.

Most people will tell you that you need different piano samples for different applications. My favorite piano for bright, punchy, cut-through-the-mix is:

Sorry that I can't find the original site - I found it again recently, but Google is failing me now.

For a darker, mellow grand, I like:

which is a nice Steinway sample (big, though - 30 meg)

Doh! My bad. I remember now that I didn't downlaod is because I already have too many stinkin piano samples. But, if it comes highly recommended, what's a few more meg on the hard drive?
