Need help with my setup (Mackie Onyx + Echo Layla 24)

Hi, I have en Echo Layla 24 soundcard running perfectly on my computer.
I would like to expand the numbers of input to 16. Can I just buy a preamp like Mackie Onyx and put an adat cable between them? Will I then be able to find the inputs, and set them up under VST Connections in Cubase SX2?

I hope someone can make this a bit clearer for me.

Yes, that would be a solution indeed. The ADAT output of the Onyx 800R go into the ADAT input of the Layla24, and become inputs 9-16 over there.
