Would it be possible to have a single slot for one vst plugin effect within the sampler itself? I don't know if this is possible but it would be great to use a vst effect right inside the sampler for quick effects. Maybe on a tabbed page?

It's possible but...
Isnt this against VST/plugin paradigm?
I mean, your host surely will provide that functionality already.
edit: unless you mean to apply VST effects destructively in the sample editor.

My sequencer does allow for better effects handling, but it would be great to apply effects quickly within the sampler. If I want to try out a delay/etc. I have to go into my mixer, set it up, audition. If there was one slot inside the sampler then I could work/audition effects quickly. I think it would be a great feature to increase workflow. Maybe the effects could be sampled as well in the "vst sampler".

SECONDED.
Yes, most VSTi hosts allow for "better effects handling", but the thing is that it's hard to manage a really complicated mix when all of the effects are external to DirectWave. The ability to have SOME of the effects instances built into the DirectWave patch would be wonderful, truly a godsend.
Here's another reason for doing this: Sometimes when you're building up a really interesting DirectWave program the *VST effects* are a really big part of what makes the result sound good. Being able to store the effects settings internally with the DirectWave program makes a lot more sense in such cases, because then the program is useful elsewhere, without having to dig out the exact effects settings from somewhere else. I enthusiastically recommend adding 1 VST effects slot per keyzone. I would use that capability like crazy myself.
The ability to apply effects destructively in the sample editor would also be ridiculously nice. Both of these things should be easy to implement, and produce really big dividends for us creative sampling types.
The VST hosts are not now (and should not be) the "be all and end all" for effects processing. Even Cubase is just too limited in its effects routing for this to be possible or practical. And remember - even now it is not possible to "drag n' drop" back and forth between Cubase (or other hosts except FL) and DirectWave. In fact, "drag n' drop" from DirectWave TO anything else is currently not implemented at all. The premier VSTi's - like DirectWave - need to do more to make interesting uses of VST effects possible/practical. Complete, fully-useful drag n' drop AND destructive VST effects processing in the DirectWave sample editor are both needed badly - at least here.
