metalic sound using outboard compressor

Hello there, i was just wondering if anyone could tell me why when i send a signal to my focusrite compressor from the pc via my motu 828,i get a metalic sound and it makes everything sound unnatural,i am trying to compress my drums, is this because i am using un balanced cables, please excuse me if this is obvious, but any help would be nice

It sounds to me like you could have a feedback loop in there somewhere. Check your routings.

It's not the cables for sure. Probably you're getting a mix of the dry + compressed signal. Maybe some of the compressed input signal goes out to the same output that's the input of the compressor: feedback loop!

So check your (digital) wiring and monitoring setup...
