people say they make there vocals fill the frequencies that the beat or track isnt using.. how do they do this and with what

i think ultimately it's a question of the subjectivity - the song, singer and genre - for example, REM existed for years with Stipe's vocals being buried beneath the mix, but you go and try that with an R&B diva...
Another tip is to EQ via instrumentation - "generally speaking" only the kick, bass and vocals sit in the middle of the mix, so you can afford to pan the rest of the mix outside of the centre channel.

thats good to know. For some reason i was under the impression that it was the snare and the kick in the center. See everything i know about production i have learned from people i thought were good at what they do. eventually the teechniques i was toughtslowly change and i end up doing things against the way i was shown. so that you for your advise
