i haven't got a midi in cos i'm just using onboard sound.
is there an easy/cheap way to connect my yamahaSY35 midi out to a usb in to my computer, just with software drivers and a cable,
or do you need extra hardware to do this?
(i think i did see somethin by m-audio for about £30,maybe it's cheaper to get an old soundcard just to use the midi in?)

there are relatively cheap midi/USB interfaces. also there are midi to gameport adapter cables, wich are as expensive as a little mid interface.

I got one of these cheap things
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Newest-USB-cable- ... dZViewItem
works a treat, no config or anything it's just like having my other USB controller connected (actually i did have to swap over the midi in and out plugs before it worked)
You can pay about £30 or equivalent for a brand name or get a cheap chinese thing like I did

midi-to-usb devices are as cheap as chips they really are so you shouldn't ahve a problem finding one that suits your needs…

Hah.. you know that when line says in, it takes signal in? ..and when synths midihole says out it sends the data out? and vice versa.works a treat, no config or anything it's just like having my other USB controller connected (actually i did have to swap over the midi in and out plugs before it worked)
