I've found a lot of praise for Scarbee's Slap n fingered bass sample library, http://www.scarbee.com/products/jsf/index.php

The Scarbee website says "The Scarbee J-Slap'n Fingered has the classic funky 77' Bass sound".

BUT - is the bass suitable for other areas than just jazz? Anybody tried it for more hardcore music, does it sound good with an amp sim too? :?:

I don't have any experience with it, but you do know that it's half price right now, right? So it surely will be worth picking up. You have to click "Buy it" or whatever to get the discount though. Very good deal, it seems.

Yeah, I know. That's why I'm asking this... ;-)

But I'm not so much into jazz, so I'd like to know if it's good to use in other styles.

So, anybody know?

funky 77 does not refer to jazz. it is a sampled fender jazz bass replica, but that does not mean that is was used for jazz mainly.

the scarbee slap'n fingered has an excellent sound - a brighter bass sound than the fender precision bass and not as full as a musicman sting ray. it also lacks picked articulations. but it is versatile enough to serve different music styles. for 50% off a no brainer.

Ok, sorry! I just wanted to make sure, in case you didn't know! Sorry I couldn't help more!

From hearing the demos of Scarbee i'd say maybe Dan Dean Bass is more up your alley if you want versatility in sounds. But i do think Scarbee offers more flexibility in playing style.

klagga - I do have the J-Slap'n Fingered and depending how it's played, amped and EQ'd it has all the versatility a "fingered" (not picked) Jazz type bass offers. I've used it for jazz, blues, rock and sometimes country. Scarbee has provided so many articulations between the neck, bridge and combined pickups that depending how good you are playing keyboard bass you could create fairly convincing "real" bass parts. I used it with Guitar Rig 2 and the Tweedman amp with a little compression and it sounds great. Jazz basses are used in all types of music. It's great for slap but as a standard bass it records and sits in the mix real well.

Also it's on sale!!! :D

I have the scarbee library. I used to have Trilogy but ditched it when I got this. To my ears it is the most realistic bass sample I've heard and absolutely love it. It is very versatile and the attention to detail is awesome! You would need to have a reasonable knowledge of bass playing though to get the best out of it because they've sampled every note on every string. This allows you to program bass lines like a real player changing stings and neck positions. I also have Sampletank 2XL which also has some great bass sounds! I tend to use these more than Scarbee for easy instant bass lines. The attention to detail is no where near the Scarbee samples but they do sound good and easy to program. Another library worth looking at is Yellowtools Majestic! I'm thinking of getting this one at some point as it offers the best comination of sounds vs playability.

To sum up 1/ Scarbee if you have some bass knowledge and plenty of time for programing
2/ Yellow Tools Majestic for best comination of sound quality vs playability
3/ Sampletank 2 for good quick n' easy bass lines!
