hi
im looking to make this kind of funky disco keys...
especially the sort of chord that comes in after the stabs on the first clip, the sort of rising filtered chord...
Is there any VSTs that are good for these kinds of funky sounds? maybe some sort of keyboard... NI elektrik piano or something (ive never heard it so just a guess)

Any bread'nbutter VA (virtual analog synth) should do, e.g. Synth1.
Look for any one in your current arsenal that has seperate envelope generator for the VCA and VCF. The filter (VCF) has a slow attack (so attack set high) while the amp (VCA) has a faster attack.

i just thought as its a much used sound, there might be VSTs that specialise in old funky keyboard sounds

The sound is nothing special, you can make it with normal substractive synth. You can perceive it as on old funky keyboard sound because it's in this context (retro style disco track). But in fact it's pretty normal sound you can get using any vst synth. I guess it's just saw wave, not much resonance and cutoff somewhere above the middle. Then play with the envelopes as Bertkoor suggested. Here I made a similar sound:

I made this with Juno-60,
so basically it's a saw wave + square sub oscillator (1 octave down), vcf around middle, resonance almost at zero, envelope to vcf where attack is long and decay, sustain and release are at zero. Then slight lfo modulation on the pitch.

Yeh cheers sounds good. suppose its just all in the chords. thought it must be something more complex just because of the context its in in that tune..
sounds bit 'wetter' in the original tho, how would i achieve this? maybe a tiny touch of chorous?...

Yes chorus helps, and maybe a hint of reverb ... so the notes I played are A-C-D-F and the second chord is the same just played octave higher.-- Sami

is there anywhere on internet that has a list of some simple chords etc? i remember there was a really good website but cant find it anymore, had like a keyboard on it and some options to chose notes.
lol i've always just chose random notes until it sorta sounded OK, not knowing what they were or anything
