Hi everyone,
I bought a Seagate 7200.8 400-GB sample drive in 2005 and now I am getting disk streaming dropouts. The drive still works for everything else, so I can't send it back under warranty. It has 3 133-GB platters and is only 108 GB full. I can only support PATA in my system and have read that 1-platter drives are most reliable, so I was looking at this drive which is 160 GB: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6822148247
Does anyone have any recommendations for the best 1-platter PATA sample drive for reliability and speed?
My sincere gratitude,
Chris. Dratz

A realistic option would be the WD Raptor.
Fast and reliable.

The WDC Raptor is SATA. The OP can only use PATA...... Having said that, you might want to look into Western Digital's PATA drives. They have tested well at Storage Review... http://www.storagereview.comDayl wrote:A realistic option would be the WD Raptor.

Microphones are like Significant Others. What pins the corners of your mouth to YOUR ears, might have others gagging at the thought of close proximity.
