Can someone help me control my feet?

Er, umm... no. What I mean to ask is does anyeone have any feelings on the wide and wonderfull world of foot controllers.

My ideal set up will see me patching my acoustic through a sound-hole pick up into a novation X-Station. But I want to be able to plug a Midi enabled foot board into the back of the X-Station so that I can do on the fly effect/parameter changes etc.

I've got a fairly low budget for this ($150us) and need a minimal number of buttons and an expression rocker pedal.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

+100 on the FCB-1010!

It's built like a tank, extremely programmable, and cheap.

The user's manual sucks, but there are several sites around the Net, and a Yahoo User's Group that will help you get up to speed with it.

I can't think of any other controller that comes close, for the price.

Thank you both. I'd looked at the Behringer, and it was high on my list.... but only having the behringer site to go on I wasn't sure how much to trust the product description etc.

Right now though it seems to be the best option.

The FCB-1010 is excellent and reasonably priced.
It is a bit funky to program, but it can be made to send ANY midi message.

I use mine for patch changes to a Yamaha vl70-m windsynth.

FCB1010...FCB1010 Yes-There's an echo in here...
I had a few head-scratching moments when I got it home, I'll admit, but it's the one to get.

There's a 3rd party OS chip, the Uno, that's only $10 and worth checking out too.

I'm sorry Aural Chaos, I don't understand that, a chip to add to the Behringer or to add to something else. What does it do?

To add to the FCB. It's main purpose is "Stompbox Mode", which makes a row of switches behave like a row of stompboxes. You can do basically the same with the stock FCB, but with the mod, the LEDS on the switches behave differently...

Thanks for the heads-up on the Uno chip, AC!

I got the FCB-1010 a couple of years ago, mostly to use live with my Johnson J-Station, got it programmed to suit me, and haven't been keeping up with further developments. So I didn't know about the Uno.

It looks really interesting, and I also didn't know about using the computer-based MIDI editor, which the Uno info led to when googled. I spent a week or so wrapping my head around programming the FCB with the footswitches. Much better to do it with an editor. Using the switches is easy, but learning how to use the switches is a pain in the ass.

Ouch-I feel sorry for you! The editor is the only way to fly...

Like you, I've had the FCB a while, and also, once I got it set up for my PodXT, didn't really pay much attention to new developments. A post over at Line6 hipped me to the Uno. Totally worth the $10 bucks.

Yeah, looks like I'll definitely get that. So, again, thanks!

I just skimmed a few topics on the FCB-1010 before work this morning, and it looks like some people are using it to control Guitar Rig 2. LIke here:

Which is interesting to me, since I can get the software-only academic version of GR2 for $135 bucks. Will check that out further.

To be honest, I haven't yet found a software amp sim that sounds as good as my J-Station. It's somehow clearer and thicker. The sims all sound muddy or thin to me, in comparison. I haven't tried GR2 yet, though....
