Hi,

I own this converter:

http://www.rme-audio.com/english/adi/adi8.htm

Can I connect it directly to my Mac using its optical in/out?

I know that it won't handle 8 in/out, but what about 2 in/out?

Thanks.

That RME unit uses the ADAT protocol (up to 8 channels). Probably your Mac uses the SPDIF protocol (only 2 channels).

Although these both use TOSLINK optical cables these protocols are not compatible at all.

The cheapest way to get this working, is buy a simple soundcard that has ADAT I/O, such as the Echo Gina 3G or M-Audio FireWire 1814
