As much as I like the sound of the EW samples, I can't see spending $600. Is there anything available that's $400 or less? I know Bela D Media has the Giovanni choir samples, but those are strictly children's voices. Now I wish I'd bought Voices of the Apocalypse when I had the chance. Doh.

Seems like you know the market fairly well. The only one I'm aware of (of decent quality) that you didn't mention is Symphony of Voices from Spectrasonics, but a quick scan reveals that it's around $469.

Actually, thinking about it.....if you have Reason there's a Philharmonik choir refill for $99 here http://www.zzounds.com/item--IKMMIROREFILL2

EDIT: for $99 that seems like a steal. Just found this demo. Sounds very good imo. http://vi-control.com/MiroslavPhilharmo ... l-Mast.mp3

just sample a choir from old records. if you put crossfades inbetween sections you can't even tell-plus the recording will be unique and probably sound better.

The East West Choirs are a lot different than all the other mentioned choirs. With East West you can let the choirs sing a self written text and play it with your keys/midi (each syllable is a key hit). It's not just uhs, ohs and Allelujah. So it's not at all what the other companies offer. I don't know any alternative to it, got it myself and it's worth the money. Why not buy it second hand? Be carefull, will need at least a setup with 2GB Ram...

Unfortunately, I don't think the license is transferable.

there isn't anything that does what East Wests Symphonic Chior does, also anything by Spectrasonics is a must buy.

An EW product is not just for Christmas - it's for life. Licenses are NOT transferable.

Kind regards.

So you cannot move it to another computer? Or is it just not transferable to another person as it's owner?

That Philharmonik refill does sound impressive. I don't have Reason, unfortunately. Do you know if IK is going to make it available in other formats (Kontakt, Giga, etc.)?

A budget alternative might be SoundScan Vol. 28 from USB:

www.ultimatesoundbank.com/soundscan.html?s=20

Obviously no word-building but then it's only $38. What you get is nicely recorded male, female and childrens oohs, aahs, eehs a.s.o. (and some synthetic choirs thrown in for good measure). There's a short audio snippet at the website. Pretty good value at the asking price.

Akai format but should convert pretty well into other formats.

Is there anything available that's $400
you should wait for a group buy ( if they do it again...not sure) , it was more or less the same price....

it was 400, that is what I got if for. Wait until October or Christmas and it probably be cheaper.
