i have the Emu 1212 card, have been using a Yamaha 4416 multitrack as the front end via the adat lightpipe, but i'm switching things around..i'd get the 1820 (i think that's the number) Emu breakout interface, but it's no longer available....the only inexpensive adat i/o i know of is the Behringer, but i'm leery and i don't need all those mic pres, i'd just like to be able to get a number (more than two) of line level signals simultaniously....i've done some searches and haven't found anything, any ideas?

I may be missing your point entirely but with the demise of the 1820 wouldn't the 1616pci meet your requirements?

that would require buying a whole new setup...i'm looking for the breakout box with the line i/o and mic pres itself, but Emu has discontinued it, the newer 1616 is not compatible the older 1212 card...the only thing i could do is buy the newer setup and sell the old one, but i don't think it's worth muc at this point...
one option i found is the Alesis AI3, an eight channel line io for adat lightpipe, but they aren't available either....maybe used i suppose, but what i've seen, they aren't going cheap (around 300 bucks), i could get a used 1820 for that...
i just thought other might have experience, ideas, etc....

been using exactly your setup before switching to another soundcard.
1212 + behringer ADA8000. Worked absolutely flawless. Considering the price the mic-pres on the behringer are very nice. Still use it if i'm in need of more than 10 channels.

yeah, it works great with the yammy, a bit overkill tbh...but i'm going to use 4416 as a mobile setup, i can load tracks 8 at a time back into the computer if need be....
actually found this:

it's 150 bucks (about what i was looking to spend), anyone ever use anything by SM Pro? either that or the Alesis AI3 used are the only thing i've seen...i really have no need for eight mic pres, another amp in the chain doesn't help...

The Behringer 8000 is a total POS, do not waste the money.

Can you elaborate what's inherently wrong with it? IMHO they simply function like it says on the box...where02190 wrote:The Behringer 8000 is a total POS, do not waste the money.
Friend of mine has three of 'em, linked to a harddisk recorder. Only thing he stumbled upon was they need to be synched by wordclock, and these wordclock generators aren't cheap! But that's only an issue if you have more than one...

Several. As an alternative to the Behringer unit, there's Marian's new thingie which is not much more expensive. Or, if you only need extra inputs, there's this unit from SM Pro Audio which is much cheaper. All of these are limited to 48KHz max. though.Chuck E. @vonRed: that Marian unit looks pretty good, still a bit overkill...from what i've seen, the SM Pro Audio device is right on the money, do you (or anyone else) know if these are any good? i'm not familiar with the brand at all...the only other thing i've seen is the Alesis AI3, they are asking around US$300 on ebay used, and the SM Pro is US$150 new...i figure if it doesn't have mic pres (which i really don't need, i've got a Mackie 1202vlz and an Aphex stereo pre), the money spent will be on the cleanest signal path, convertors, and not crappy pres-not the the ones i have are that great, but they are sufficiant for my needs at this time...

arrgghh...the more i think about it, the more i think about it...the problem with the SM Pro is it's only input, and if i want to process tracks outside of the computer, well, i'm f**ked...the Behringer really does everything i need...do the line inputs bypass the mic pres? i'm sure there is just a pad on it like most inexpensive gear...
shit, if i can find the alesis AI3, that would be the thing...i'll wait for now... f**k!

Yes. We did some betatesting on them. First one was DOA right out of the box. Second one, and third one, had only 7 working outs. Finally giving up on getting a fully functioning unit, it was A/B'd to the stock Digi 001 converters, known for their suck ass quality. The 001 sounded like a Apogee compared to the Behringer, which easily overloaded with anything over +6dbu fed into it, had a pretty hefty loss of phase cohesion in the low end below 150hz, and had some of the most painful high end I've ever heard.BertKoor wrote:Can you elaborate what's inherently wrong with it? It is typical cheap behringer junk. We later learned they purchase reject converters from Alesis for this unit.
