Percussion midi input devices

I've been away from music making for about 2 years now and I've lost track of what's happening in music technology. Was considering getting some more tools to aid creativity, or more accurately to enable me to jam amd enjoy being in the flow some more.
Never tried any drum pads, and a quick search brings up something like this:

Too cheap to work effectively? This is for home use only rather than gigging.

Well, it looks more up to the job than e.g. the Yamaha DD55...
